I have frequently noted in studying well-documented reincarnation cases, that transiting Saturn is in hard contact with the natal North Node (conjunct, square or opposed) when a past life memory emerges — either consciously or subconsciously.

The Case of Margaret Kempthorne and Gladys Deacon

Gladys Deacon was born on January 25, 1900 in Leicestershire, England (birth time unknown). As a young child she had a phobia of falling down, and a fondness for the name Margaret.

At age 11 while on a family Christmas trip to visit Dorset (in December 1911, a place she had never been before), Gladys found the area extremely familiar. She told her brother, ‘When I was quite a little girl I lived in a house near here. I remember running down a hill in that field with two grown-ups holding my hands and we all fell down and I hurt my leg badly.” She even described the clothes in detail that they had been wearing. She said as well, “My name was Margaret then.”

Encapsulating this Christmas time period are two very important Solar Arcs involving the natal North Node: SA Venus was square the North Node (May 2011) and SA Jupiter was conjunct the North Node (April 1912).

It wasn’t until 17 years later in 1928 when Gladys was 28 years old with transiting Saturn conjunct her natal North Node that she was able to validate her past life recollection as a young girl.

In 1928, while Gladys was traveling with her employer through Dorset, they encountered a flat tire, and stopped at a cottage for tea. Gladys saw an old portrait hanging on the wall and realized to her amazement that she recognized herself in the portrait as a young child running down the same hill. In this portrait, the young girl was wearing the exact clothing that Gladys saw in her past life memories when she was 11 years old.

She learned from a woman at the cottage that the young girl in the portrait was Margaret Kempthorne who at the age of 5 had fallen down the hill, broken her leg and never recovered. She died two months later.

Margaret Kempthorne was born as well on the same date, January 25th, in 1830 and died on October 11, 1835. Gladys was born 65 years after Margaret died.

I had a consultation with a new client the other day, who had had a severe problem with recurring bladder infections, continuously —non-stop— over the past five years. As soon as she would finish taking antibiotics and the symptoms cleared up, the bladder infection, would return. Miraculously however, over the past few months, she was astonished to observe that her bladder infection had not returned. It had vanished. It was gone! Read the entire essay here…

The Consultation Process: Talking About Health and Illness

With the recent passing of Lynn Redgrave and her eight-year battle with cancer, I was intrigued to study her horoscope and life events to understand what may have triggered the onset of her breast cancer diagnosis in 2002. It was within that year Redgrave found a lump in her breast. In December she was diagnosed with breast cancer, had a mastectomy in January 2003 and underwent chemotherapy.

According to Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer and the German New Medicine, the emotional conflict associated with the breast glands is a “nest conflict,” a worry or argument conflict (caring and nurturing) within what a woman considers to be her “nest.” In other words, her children, mother, pet, partner, home, workplace, etc. The worry can be over a concern of a loved one, or even being thrown out of her “nest.” The milk ducts of the breast are associated with a separation conflict, a sudden loss of physical contact or a conflict such as to say “my child, mother or partner has been torn from my breast.”

The Moon and the sign of Cancer rule over the breasts. In Redgrave’s natal horoscope (shown below; born on March 8, 1943 at 8:15 AM in London, UK; Ascendant 8 Aries 51), Jupiter in Cancer in the 4th house squares the natal Moon and the Ascendant (the health center of the body). The Moon rules over the 4th and 5th houses, over affairs involving one’s home life and children.

As I studied the three years leading up to her diagnosis in late 2002, the year 1999 stood out like a sore thumb: Solar Arc (SA) Pluto was conjunct Neptune (co-ruler of the 12th house of critical illness), SA Neptune=Moon, and SA Saturn=Sun! Throughout 1999, transiting Neptune and transiting Saturn were semisquare her natal Sun in the 12th house.*

*Please note: an overview of the astrological indicators of critical illness and a short introduction to Dr. Hamer’s work can be found in the essay “The Two-Year Clue,” May 2010.

I felt certain that 1999 was critical in understanding the emotional conflict that triggered her cancer diagnosis. I googled “Lynn Redgrave 1999” and sure enough, it was at that time that Redgrave learned that her husband John Clark of 32 years had fathered a child with his assistant, Nicolette Hanah in 1991 — the same woman who married their oldest son Benjamin four years later. John and Nicolette kept this secret until after Nicolette and Ben divorced.

Redgrave told The Times of London in 1999: “I can’t forgive him. There’s no way we can be back together. There’s no wavering on my part.”
She filed for divorce on March 1, 1999, and after the court trial moved from California with their three children and took up residence in Connecticut.

The emotional conflict may very well have been on-going throughout the years ahead. Her ex-husband John Clark wrote on his blog in September 2005 in reference to an upcoming interview with Lynn Redgrave by interviewer Robert Osborne:

“Robert, do me a favor now. Just ask her, as part of the interview, why she feels it necessary to keep my kids from me? It’s been 6 years since I heard from Kelly Clark, and 3 years since Annabel Clark, and over 1 year since Ben Clark. Ask her too why she feels it necessary to keep restraining orders in place to prevent me from even having a conversation with her — hence this website.”

The astrology supports on-going health concern as well:

In 2003/2004, SA Saturn was conjunct Pluto, SA Neptune was opposed Uranus (both planets, co-rulers of the 12th house) and transiting Saturn was square the Ascendant and the Moon.

In 2005, SA Mars (r. Asc) was opposed Neptune (co-r. 12th), with transiting Saturn opposed Mars.

In 2006, transiting Saturn was conjunct Pluto.

In 2007, SA Pluto opposed the Ascendant, with transiting Saturn square Uranus (co-r. 12th).

In 2008 and 2009 the measurements intensify with the extended transits of Pluto square natal Neptune, and Neptune semisquare the natal Ascendant and Moon. Transiting Neptune was also conjunct Mercury in the 12th house, and finally transiting Saturn was opposed the Sun, semisquare Pluto, and conjunct Neptune.

Other unexpected emotional conflicts may have contributed to her debilitation as well. Her brother had a sudden heart attack in June 2005 (he died in April 2010, just one month before Lynn Redgrave passed), and a little more than a year ago, her niece Natasha Richardson died suddenly from head injuries in a skiing accident.

Without speaking with Lynn Redgrave directly, we will never know how she perceived these conflicts the very moment they occurred, but life circumstances do support Dr. Hamer’s theories for an emotional conflict associated with the breasts. Perhaps Redgrave was unable to find
resolution and closure to the scandal that disrupted her family ‘nest’ and ended her 32-year marriage.

Lynn Redgrave's Birth Chart

A look at Crystal Bowersox’s natal and draconic charts, her current transit activity and when she began to sing at age 10. Will she be the next American Idol in 2010?

Like many American Idol fans out there, I’ve become completely smitten by Crystal Bowersox’s voice and talent, and I think it goes without saying that whether she wins the competition or not, Crystal has put herself into the international spotlight and a soon-to-be record deal is without a doubt surely hers for the making.

So with a passion for astrology, birth time rectification and the music of Crystal Bowersox, I’ve come up with what I think is a very strong possibility for Crystal’s birth time: 11:00 AM with 3 Libra 35’ on the Ascendant —corroborating her natural beauty, and rounded face and stature with the ruler Venus in Cancer, conjunct her Midheaven (4 Cancer 11’).

Here’s what I’ve discovered while researching information about Crystal’s life with significant measurements:

Crystal was born on August 4, 1985 in Toledo, Ohio and grew up on a farm in a small town called Elliston outside of Toledo.

Her parents divorced when she was a young child (age/date unknown).

Her first performance was at age 7 in 2nd grade as ‘Susie Snowflake.’ Solar Arc Moon (r. 10th) was opposed the Ascendant (December 1992).
She began singing and playing the guitar at age 10 when she discovered her mother’s guitar around Christmas 1995. Crystal says, “As soon as I touched a guitar, I knew that’s what I was born to do. That’s never changed since I was 10.”

SA Pluto square Jupiter (Dec ’95), opposed Sun (Feb ’96; regardless of birth time). Tr. Saturn conjunct Moon (March ’96), Tr. Saturn opposed Ascendant, square MC (first hit May ’96).

Age 13: received a 12-gauge, sawed-off shot gun for her 13th birthday (August 4, 1998). SA Uranus square Moon (July 29, 1998); tr. Uranus opposed Sun (rx hit, June ’98).

Age 18: sold that shot gun to move to Chicago in the beginning of 2004 to pursue music. Tr. Neptune opposed Sun (last hit January ’04).

Age 20: summer 2006, June 21-25: invited for her first time out of the US to perform in Birmingham, England at a Festival entitled “Experience Chicago.” SA Uranus (r. 5th) opposed MC (exact June 27, 2006).

Age 22, in 2008 (exact dates unknown) traveled and performed in Los Angeles, Mexico, Memphis and Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey. Tr. Jupiter opposed MC.

Age 23, toward the end of 2008: moved back home from Chicago and decided to “do music full-time;” gave birth to her son, Anthony (born around December 2008 although exact birth date unknown). SA Uranus (r. 5th) semisquare Saturn (r. 4th) (exact December 2008). SA Saturn (r. 4th) conjunct Uranus (r. 5th) (exact January 2009). Tr. Node conjunct Jupiter in the 5th house (December 11, 2008).

Age 23: auditioned for American Idol in Chicago, June 22, 2009 and received a ticket to Hollywood. Tr. Uranus conjunct Moon (first hit June 19, 2009, rx hit July 13, 2009).

Age 24: January 2010: went to Hollywood, California where she made the Top 24 on American Idol. Tr. Saturn conjunct Ascendant (first hit December 2009). Tr. Pluto square Ascendant, and opposed the MC (January 2010; rx June/July 2010, last hit November 2010).

Age 24: hospitalized overnight March 2, 2010 for diabetes complications. Recovered and performed live on March 3rd on American Idol. Tr. Saturn conjunct Ascendant (rx hit exact February 17, 2010; last hit August 2010). Tr. Saturn square Venus (r. Asc; exact March 5, 2010). Tr. Uranus conjunct Moon (last hit March 16, 2010).

The finale of American Idol is scheduled to take place on Wednesday May 26, 2010 when the winner will be announced. A birth time at 11:00 AM places Crystal’s Draconic Ascendant at 19 Leo 51’. Transiting Pluto will be precisely sesquiquadrate her Draconic Ascendant for the retrograde hit on May 25, 2010 (and in her natal chart, transiting Pluto would be currently opposed her MC and square her Ascendant).

And finally, looking ahead to 2011 and Crystal’s first debut album: tr. Uranus opposed Ascendant, square MC!

Looking good, Crystal! Keep on knocking’em dead!

The technique and art of birth time rectification is one of the greatest challenges (if not the greatest) for astrologers — particularly when working with 1,440 minutes of birth time possibilities within a 24-hour day. It can certainly be daunting especially if we do not know where to begin, but, with practice and diligence, it can be managed. I was recently motivated to rectify the birth time of Judge Sonia Sotomayor after listening to her speak about her life, her mother and her childhood experiences, during her Supreme Court Confirmation Hearing in July 2009. Judge Sonia Sotomayor was born on June 25, 1954 in the Bronx, New York; birth time unknown. Read the entire essay here.

So often in consultation with clients, I have found that the ruler of the Ascendant — its sign, house and condition — highlights an important storyline, an important thread that weaves it way throughout life development. Many times it allows the astrologer within minutes (if not seconds) to get right to the crux of the matter, to the heart of a very relevant theme within a client’s identity development.
