There is definitely not a ‘warm and fuzzy’ feeling about the Opening Olympics Chart in Beijing, China this summer (August 8, 2008 at 8:08:08 PM; Asc 6 Pisces 15).

With the 7th house representing China’s relationship with other nations, we see Saturn and Venus straddling the Descendant bringing in that inhibited love feeling. And in the sign of Virgo no less, emotions are cooled way, way down. We get a serious, conservative sense of ambition as if everything needs to be just right. Talk about controls! Doesn’t make you want to kick back and take off your shoes, if you know what I mean.

Just for starters, the Sun Leo-Moon Scorpio Blend sets up a power struggle: “I am right and you better recognize that!” The same message comes across with AP Pluto=Sun/Moon: out-and-out power scuffles, and who is going to control who. Makes you wonder what’s being hidden or who or what may try to overthrow their authority. Repeating this sense of concealment is the ruler of China’s identity Neptune tucked away in the 12th house. The masses, representative of the Moon, retreating back into the 8th house. The Moon rules the 5th house of entertainment, the games, perhaps as well symbolic of the athletes. Hmmm, I wonder what’s up there.

Mars quindecile the Ascendant can suggest aggression, anger or resentment or China’s ability to get what it wants. But Mars in the 7th house of other nations and opposed by Uranus sitting in the 1st of China’s identity, well let’s just say we get a midpoint configuration of Uranus=Mars=Pluto/MC: the drive for power and domination, nervousness and explosively argumentative. Again, I’m not getting a really cozy feeling here.

But on the up side AP Pluto=Jupiter/MC: great gains, achievement, and recognition. But then again, AP Pluto=Moon/Node: powerful forces affect relationships; the sense of fated attraction. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Opening Olympics Chart

According to BBC News:
“Zimbabwe’s annual rate of inflation jumped to 7,638% in July…” “The Central Statistical Office said inflation had more than doubled since May. Last month, the International Monetary Fund warned annual inflation could reach 100,000% by the end of the year. The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe has said the real year-on-year inflation is far higher than the official rate – claiming it was nearer 13,000% in June.”

“Zimbabwe’s economic crisis has led to an estimated three million people fleeing the country for South Africa. Unemployment stands at about 80% and there are mass shortages of fuel and foodstuffs. Last month a new 200,000 Zimbabwe dollar note was launched, in a bid to tackle the country’s inflation, the highest in the world.”

Zimbabwe received its independence from Great Britain on April 18, 1980 at 00.00 AM EET in Harare, Zimbabwe; Asc: 01 Aqu 38; MC: 29 Lib 17 [Source: Campion, The Book of World Horoscopes, (Second Edition, 1996), p. 448, citing the Times, 18 and 19 April 1980].

It is fascinating to study the solar arcs and transits in Zimbabwe’s horoscope now at the time of this crisis. Exact in September 2007, we see two major solar arcs:

Uranus, ruling both the Ascendant (the country’s identity, its people) and 2nd house (its economy and national wealth) has ARCED to square Saturn in the 8th house (the national debt and interest rates). Uranus also symbolizes rebellion, upheaval, and extreme change brought on through revolt (i.e. citizens saying, “We’re not putting up with this anymore”).

As well, SA Sun ruler of the 8th has arced to oppose Uranus (r. 2nd), echoing a “revolutionary spirit“, the nation’s life-energy is up against a financial crisis.

In Zimbabwe’s horoscope, natal Uranus (ruling the Ascendant and 2nd) is square Mars (in the 8th). The Midheaven has ARCED to this configuration, conjunct Uranus in the 10th and square Mars (May ’06, June ’08 respectively) highlighting the current monetary situation…and now in July/August, transiting Saturn is square Uranus and conjunct Mars!

How does the situation look ahead? Well in 2009, tr. Neptune will be conjunct Uranus symbolic of the Zimbabwe’s identity, people and economy, with SA Saturn conjunct Pluto in March 2010 (significant hardship that could shape the country’s history?).

Zimbabwe's Natal Chart

With two devastating airplane crashes within the past year (on September 29, 2006 and July 17, 2007; killing a total of 353 people), Brazil is undergoing a major crisis in aviation.

Most recently, President Lula has fired both the Defense Minister and the Chief of Aviation. Lula has been under intense criticism from the public for not visiting Sao Paulo after the latest crash on July 17, 2007.

I would like to share some fascinating observations with the Birth Chart of Brazil (September 7, 1822 at 4:00 PM in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Asc 20 Aqu 26; MC 18 Sco 45).

This chart was used by the late and brilliant astrologer John Milton Taber who said, “There is firm historical documentation suggesting that Brazil became independent at 4:00 PM on Sept. 7, 1822 in São Paulo.” As well from Campion’s book “The Book of World Horoscopes,” (Second Edition, 1996; p.99): “Brazil proclaimed its independence from Portugal […] on 7 September 1822. The event … took place between 4:00 and 5:00 P.M. LMT …”

Just focusing on one important natal aspect in the horoscope, we see peregrine Saturn in the 3rd house (of inland transportation and communication) in a tight sesquiquadrate to peregrine Mercury, the chart’s final dispositor, in the 8th house (of public mortality). In mundane charts, Mercury rules over communication and travel; Saturn, the controls necessary for society to function efficiently and orderly.

Encompassing the period of both airplane disasters, we see that natal Mars (ruler of the 3rd house) has ARCED to Mercury and Saturn (SA Mars=Mercury; Nov ’06, and SA Mars conjunct Saturn in the 3rd house; Jan ’08). We also note that natal Saturn and Mercury have ARCED to the North Node (SA Saturn square Node; May ’06, and SA Mercury semisquare Node on July ’07 at the time of the second crash). On top of that, right in the midst of both disasters, two very difficult Solar Arcs: SA Pluto=Ascendant (Dec ’06) and SA Saturn=Pluto (Jan ’07)!

The transits of Neptune and Saturn to the Angles of the natal chart seem to confirm the accuracy of a 4:00 PM birth time. Transiting Neptune was conjunct the Ascendant (the country’s people) for its retrograde hit in August ’07 (i.e. at the time of the second crash, and square the Midheaven during the first crash). Transiting Saturn was opposed the Ascendant and square the Midheaven in September 2006 (precisely at the time of the first plane crash).

Aside from these two aviation catastrophes, Brazil experienced an enormous amount of aviation turmoil over the past holiday season (Dec 2006/Jan 2007) when flights were completely oversold and overbooked, leaving a barrage of passengers behind! In Brazil, one of the busiest holiday periods is 10 days between December 26th and January 6th when hotels are pre-paid and sold-out months in advance. Countless passengers lost valuable money and vacation time over the past Christmas season due to Brazil’s chaotic aviation system.

Hopefully aviation will improve in Brazil but it is a real shame that it takes such a loss of life to make necessary changes.

Brazil's Natal Chart

President Bush was sworn in on January 20th, 2005 at 11:57 AM; Capitol Building, District of Columbia (Asc 13 Tau 00; MC 25 Cap 26).

I see the following as major issues of concern in the Inauguration chart:

With Saturn retrograde (ruler of both the 9th of foreign affairs / courts / law, and the 10th of the Republican Party and the president) exactly conjunct the 4th house cusp (the Democratic Party), we feel strong suppressive ‘controls’ from the President and his party.

Neptune ruler of the 12th house (secret enemies of the nation) is square the Ascendant (the people, the identity that is projected to the rest of the world). Neptune rules oil, deception, subversion, and scandal.

Pluto (ruler of the 7th – the nation’s relationship with other nations) is conjunct Mars (ruler of the 12th of secret enemies) in the 8th house of the national debt and financial relations with other countries! We sense open conflict, international disputes involving war and peace, and extraordinary turns of events in shaping a country’s history. Death and rebirth!!! Pluto and Mars coupled together: extreme force, persuasion, control; brutality; excessive effort. As well, Pluto is quindecile the Moon representing the people / the masses (the Moon rules both the communications 3rd and 4th of the democrats and real estate).

As to the nation’s finances, the Sun is peregrine, ruling the 5th house of the stock market!

Strong idealism is suggested with the armed forces with Mercury conjunct Venus (both co-ruling the 6th) in the 9th house of foreign affairs. Augmented by its square from Jupiter ruler of the 8th – how this all will affect the nation’s debt!!! All very scary, to say the very least.

A few more interesting things I see with Bush’s Horoscope and the Inauguration Chart:

Bush’s horoscope shows tr. Saturn conjunct Saturn in the 12th house (Sat r. 6th) in June 2005. This coincides with tr. Saturn oppose the MC-Sun in the Inauguration Chart in June/July 2005. Could this be some kind of new start for the President / Republican Party (Inauguration Saturn rules the 10th) coinciding with health concerns for Bush???

Earlier in April 2005, Bush’s horoscope shows tr. Uranus square Mars (r. 10th), coinciding with the Inauguration horoscope of transiting Uranus square Moon (representing the people/masses; ruling the 4th of the Democratic Party) in April 2005. Bush’s sudden application of great energy and dominant will in his profession, spurred on by an intensification of the people (i.e., riots) to fulfill their needs???

In September/October 2005, Bush’s horoscope shows tr. Saturn conjunct the Ascendant and Pluto (r. 4th) coinciding with the Inauguration Chart’s SP Moon oppose Mars (r. 12th, in the 8th…public enemies, death concerns) in October 2005, and the emotionally challenging SA Saturn=Moon (inhibited, lonely sad people) in December 2005.

My initial impression of the 2005 Inauguration Chart was ‘ominous.’
